This Weekend at SJTW

The Weekend of July 14-15
It’s a busy weekend here at St. Joseph the Worker! We will welcome all three of our new priests, celebrate Vacation Bible School, welcome a new member of God’s family and much, much more!
In the Readings
In the First Reading, we learn how God called Amos from shepherding sheep and dressing sycamores to be a prophet to His people Israel.
In the Second Reading, Paul tells us in his letter to the Ephesians that God has given us every blessing through Jesus.
In the Gospel, Jesus sends His Apostles out two by two to drive out unclean spirits and heal the sick.
At Saturday’s 5:00 Mass, we welcome our new co-pastor, Fr. Paul Attah-Nsiah. Fr. Paul comes to us from Ghana. Prior to being appointed Associate Pastor at St. Joe’s and St. Columbkille’s, Fr. Paul served as the Vicar General for the Diocese of Konongo-Mampong. We look forward to his ministry in our parishes!
Fr. Tom McDermott will preside at Sunday’s 8:30 Mass. Fr. Tom comes to us from Blessed Sacrament Parish in Waterloo. He and Fr. Dave are our and St. Columbkille’s Co-Pastors and the Spiritual Director and Rector at St. Pius X Seminary here in Dubuque. Deacon Bill will assist Fr. Tom at this Mass. There will also be Children’s Liturgy of the Word.
11:00 Installation Mass
The 11:00 Mass has a lot of exciting things happening this weekend including Children’s Liturgy and the following:
The Installation of our New Co-Pastors
Archbishop Michael Jackels will formally install Fr. Tom McDermott and Fr. David Schatz as our new Co-Pastors after the Gospel reading. During the Installation, typically there is a presentation of the clergy, the staff and the lay leadership including the Pastoral Council. We want to especially invite the members of the Pastoral Councils from both parishes to attend the 11:00 Mass for this presentation. Our new Co-Pastors will lead us in professing our faith and pledge an oath to the archbishop that they will follow the faith and lead our parishes closer to God.
Vacation Bible School Celebration
VBS 2018 was a huge success! After Communion, the VBS participants will perform one of the songs they learned during the week!
Reception in Martin Hall
After Mass, we invite you to come down to Martin Hall for a special reception celebrating VBS and welcoming our new Co-Pastors. Check out what the kids have learned over the past week and get to know Fr. Tom and Fr. Dave!
Simon Miller will be baptized into God’s Church after Mass. Welcome to Simon and his family!
