The Weekend of September 8-9

SJTW Mass Times

This Weekend at SJTW

Father Tom joins us as we celebrate the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time.

In the Readings

First Reading Isaiah 35:4-7a

In the First Reading, Isaiah tells us not to be afraid. God comes to save us. The blind will see and the deaf will hear because of God’s goodness.

Second Reading James 2:1-5

In the Second Reading, James writes not to show partiality. Don’t pay special attention to someone who is rich while being cruel to someone who is poor. Help the poor and those in need. God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith.

Gospel Mark 7:31-37

In the Gospel, Jesus helps someone in need. He goes to heal a deaf man, and, as Isaiah said, God made the deaf hear. Jesus tells people not to tell anyone, but they were astonished, and the more Jesus told them not to, the more they proclaimed it.

At Mass

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

There will be Children’s Liturgy of the Word at the 8:30 and 11:00 Masses. All kids between the ages of 5-10 and their guardians are invited to Martin Hall following the Gloria.
