The Weekend of September 15-16

St. Joseph the Worker Mass Times

This Weekend at SJTW

Father Tom joins us as we celebrate the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time and Catechetical Weekend!

In the Readings

First Reading Isaiah 50:4c-9a

In the First Reading, Isaiah writes about how he does not back down from living his faith even when others attack him. He does this because God protects him and because God is worth the sacrifice.

Second Reading James 2:14-18

In the Second Reading, St. James writes about how just saying you have faith is not enough. You need to back your faith up with actions. How you live your life demonstrates your faith to others.

Gospel Mark 8:27-35

In the Gospel, Jesus asks His disciples who they think He is. They tell Him they believe He is the Son of God. Jesus teaches them that He will suffer, be rejected and killed. Peter then rebukes Jesus for saying such a thing. Jesus rebukes Peter and tells His disciples that being faithful to God and to Him means we all have to take up our crosses, accept suffering and follow God.
