The Weekend of October 6-7
by Adam Mumm
This Weekend at SJTW
It’s Octoberfest weekend! Father Tom joins us to celebrate the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
In the Readings
First Reading Genesis 2:18-24
In the First Reading, God created the animals so that the man would not be alone. When He saw none of them were suitable for the man, He created a woman from one of the man’s ribs. From then on, a man leaves his parents to be joined with his wife as they “become one flesh.”
Second Reading Hebrews 2:9-11
In the Second Reading, Paul writes about how God took on our lower human form to help save us. Because God became human and suffered and died for us, we share “one origin” and are saved by being united in Christ.
Gospel Mark 10:2-16
In the Gospel, the Pharisees test Jesus by asking if a man can divorce his wife. Jesus tells them that marriage is a bond created by God when He joins a man and a woman together and they “become one flesh.” Jesus says that no human being can separate what God has joined together.
We will welcome a new member to God’s family through baptism during the 5:00 Mass.
Our Vacation Bible School students will give an encore performance of their song “Lighthouse” during the 11:00 Mass!
Make sure to check out Octoberfest in the gym after Mass! There will be turkey & dressing sandwiches after the 5:00 Mass, coffee and donuts after the 8:30 Mass, and a chicken and ham dinner prepared by Kalmes Sunday afternoon! There will also be the silent auction, bake sale, craft corner, Euchre tournament, Bingo, Big Money Wheel, Kids Corner, snack wheel, the raffle, and much, much more!
