The Weekend of January 19-20
by Adam Mumm
This Weekend at SJTW
Father Paul joins us as we celebrate the 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time.
In the Readings
First Reading Isaiah 62:1-5
In the First Reading, Isaiah tells us he won’t be silent until Jerusalem sees her victory. He tells us that God delights in us and rejoices in us like a groom rejoices in his bride.
Second Reading 1 Corinthians 12:4-11
In the Second Reading, Paul tells us that we each have different gifts and perform different acts of service, but they all come from the Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives us our unique talents and calls us to help others using our gifts.
Gospel John 2:1-11
In the Gospel, Jesus, His mother Mary and His disciples are all at a wedding in Cana. When the servers run out of wine Mary asks Jesus to help. Jesus tells her it isn’t His concern because it isn’t yet His hour. Mary tells the servers to do as Jesus tells them. Jesus tells them to fill jars with water and take some to the headwaiter. The water had changed to wine. The headwaiter then tells the groom that most weddings at the time served the best wine first but this wedding saved the best wine for last.
