The Weekend of February 2-3
by Adam Mumm
This Weekend at SJTW
Father Tom joins us this weekend for the Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time.
In the Readings
First Reading Jeremiah 1:4-5, 17-19
In the First Reading, God tells Jeremiah that He knew Jeremiah when he was still in his mother’s womb. God made him a prophet to the nations and will not let him be crushed by those who would try to stop him from proclaiming God’s word.
Second Reading 1 Corinthians 12:31 – 13:13
In the Second Reading, Paul tells us about love. He tells us that no matter how great our deeds are, if we do not do them out of love, our actions are meaningless. Love is patient, love is kind. Love never fails. Paul tells us to strive for the greatest spiritual gifts of faith, hope and love. Of these three gifts, the greatest is love.
Gospel Luke 4:21-30
In the Gospel, Jesus tells His hometown that the Scriptures were being fulfilled in their presence. The people are amazed by His words and question Him, saying, “isn’t this the son of Joseph?” Jesus tells them that no prophet is accepted in his own native place. The people are filled with fury and drive Jesus out of town.
At the 5:00 Mass, we will welcome another new member to God’s family through the sacrament of Baptism!
Blessing of the Throats
In honor of the feast day of St. Blaise, we will be blessing throats after all Masses. Stick around for this special blessing asking St. Blaise to pray to God for us that we might be protected from throat illnesses.
