The Weekend of December 22-23
by Adam Mumm
This Weekend at SJTW
Father Tom joins us as we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Advent.
In the Readings
First Reading Micah 5:1-4a
In the First Reading, we hear that Jesus will be born in humble Bethlehem, even though it’s just a small town. Jesus will also be humble in that He will be born as a human being.
Second Reading Hebrews 10:5-10
In the Second Reading, the author tells us that Jesus came into the world as one of us to offer Himself up for us to save us from sin. Before Jesus, people offered up animal sacrifices to God. Jesus became the the perfect sacrifice to save us all.
Gospel Luke 1:39-45
Mary traveled to visit Elizabeth. When Elizabeth hears Mary’s greeting, the baby in her womb leaped. Elizabeth then tells Mary she is blessed for believing and saying yes to the Lord.
Shopping, giftwrapping, baking, parties. It’s the busiest time of the year. Sometimes with all the stress that can come with Christmas preparations, it can feel like “no room in the inn” describes our lives. We’re so busy that there’s no room in our day for preparing ourselves for Jesus. We can forget that this is supposed to be the happiest time of the year. Thanks for joining us this Advent as we remember to take some time out of our busy lives to Make Room in our hearts for the joy of the season and of Jesus’ coming.
