The Weekend of December 1-2
by Adam Mumm
This Weekend at SJTW
Father Tom joins us to mark the beginning of a new Liturgical Year, the beginning of Advent and the beginning of our Advent series, “Make Room!”
In the Readings
First Reading Jeremiah 33:14-16
In the First Reading, the Lord tells us He will fulfill the promise He made to His people. He promises to send “a just shoot” that will do what is right and just. God is promising to send Jesus.
Second Reading 1 Thessalonians 3:12 – 4:2
In the Second Reading, Paul tells us to love one another and to strengthen our hearts so that we will be ready for the coming of Jesus. He tells us that we have all been taught how to act so that we might be pleasing to God. We need to always strive to do more for God and for our neighbors.
Gospel Luke 21:25-28, 34-36
In the Gospel, Jesus tells us that He will come again and that everything will change when He does. Jesus tells us not to get caught up in the anxieties of daily life. Instead we need to listen to God and always be ready for Jesus’ coming, because we don’t know the day or hour when it will happen.
Calendars and Blue Books
2019 Calendars and Little Blue Books for Advent are available in the vestibules. Pick a couple up before or after Mass! The books are a great way to help prepare yourself for Christmas and for when Jesus comes again!
We will welcome a new member into God’s family through baptism during the 11:00 Mass!
Our theme for Advent this year is “Make Room!”
Shopping, giftwrapping, baking, parties. It’s the busiest time of the year. Sometimes with all the stress that can come with Christmas preparations, it can feel like “no room in the inn” describes our lives. We’re so busy that there’s no room in our day for preparing ourselves for Jesus. We can forget that this is supposed to be the happiest time of the year. Join us this Advent as we remember to take some time out of our busy lives to Make Room in our hearts for the joy of the season and of Jesus’ coming.
