While making their shawl, crafters pray for the person who will receive it. They bless the shawls when they are completed. The shawls serve as a real, tangible reminder of prayers being offered by the parish community for those who are struggling. While some crafters create these shawls with specific people in mind, many others create and pray over the shawls without knowing who will receive them. The volunteers aim to keep several shawls in the parish office to be given immediately to those in need.
While volunteers do much of the crafting work on their own time, they also meet at the parish office on the second Wednesday of each month at 2:30pm to work on their projects together, bless completed shawls, and pray for each other’s intentions.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry is always open to new members, including those who would like to learn how to knit or crochet. We welcome volunteers to craft items for this ministry even if they cannot attend meetings.
