Here at St. Joseph the Worker we have an active middle school ministry. All 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are invited to participate.
Open to all Dubuque parishioners, Totus Tuus means “Totally Yours!” and was the motto of St. John Paul II. It signifies our desire to give ourselves totally to Jesus through Mary, his mother. Participants will be led by a team of eight dynamic college students – four men and four women – who are on fire for their faith. Eucharistic worship, catechesis, evangelization, sacraments, and fun will light the fire for faith and increase participants’ desire to deepen their relationship with God.
Students entering grades 1-6 in the upcoming school year can participate in the day program, Monday – Friday, from 9:00 am – 2:30 pm. Students will be asked to bring their own lunches, but snacks and drinks will be provided. The cost for the day program is $35. Participants will start each day in O’Malley Hall. Open to all of Dubuque.
Students entering grades 7-12 in the upcoming school year can participate in the evening program, Sunday – Thursday, from 7:00 pm – 9:15 pm. (Due to activities planned on Wednesday and Thursday, the dismissal time might run slightly later than 9:15 PM.) Snacks and drinks will be provided. If your 7th-12th grader has a food allergy/diet restriction, please call or email the Program Coordinator. Free will donations are accepted. There is no registration for the evening program. Come to one session or come to all, and bring a friend!
We have as Edge Social Night once a month in the Youth Center. We gather for some fun and games. The Social has a different theme and activity each month. It’s a great way to get to know fellow Middle School students in the parish!
Every summer, middle school youth go on a service trip. In 2014 we traveled to the Quad Cities. We worked with an organization that helped keep older people in their homes. We helped with yard work that the homeowners could no longer manage. Another time we went to Appleton, WI to work with elderly at a retirement community.
Just 5 Days is designed for middle school youth with hands-on learning, high energy activities, engaging and meaningful worship experiences and direct service in the community.
Here is a video from this year when we went to Davenport to serve the community!
This annual fall Archdiocesan-wide middle school event includes dinner, hands-on activities, prayer, games and Mass! Youth Jam is held at Blessed Maria Assunta Catholic Middle School, Waterloo.
