Family Page – Second Sunday of Easter
Welcome to the Family Page!
To help you and your family make the most of this weekend’s celebration while choosing to stay home in light of the pandemic, Ann has compiled some resources and activities for families. We hope you find them helpful!
2nd Sunday of Easter – Divine Mercy Sunday
Before you read through today’s readings, ask your family members why do we give the Sign of Peace at Mass? Has it felt different while we’re experiencing the pandemic? What does the gesture mean?
This Week’s Readings
- Acts of the Apostles 4:32-35
- Psalm 118:2-4, 13-15, 22-24
- 1 John 5:1-6
- John 20:19-31
In our Gospel today, Jesus reveals himself to the apostles and immediately offers them peace. I bet they were comforted by those words after hiding in fear for many days. Peace and forgiveness were central to Jesus’ work. Can we have true peace if we have not forgiven someone or have not asked for forgiveness when we’ve harmed another person?
And what’s up with Thomas? Why did he doubt his faith that Jesus had been crucified and risen? Sometimes we all slip like Thomas because we have to see things for ourselves. That’s ok, but if our unbelief hurts another, we must say, “I’m sorry.” And we must really mean it. Holding a grudge is not true forgiveness so we have to forget things, too!
What to Do Next
Spend some time in prayer this week as a family with forgiveness as your theme. Maybe there are wrongs that need forgiveness among siblings or parents. Spend some time thinking about how the other person must feel when he or she has been harmed.
Have a forgiving Sunday!
