Here at St. Joseph the Worker we have an active middle school ministry. All 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are invited to participate.
Totus Tuus is coming back to Dubuque this summer! Hosted at St. Anthony’s Parish on June 12-17 and open to all Dubuque parishioners, Totus Tuus means “Totally Yours!” and was the motto of St. John Paul II. It signifies our desire to give ourselves totally to Jesus through Mary, his mother. Participants will be led by a team of eight dynamic college students – four men and four women – who are on fire for their faith. Eucharistic worship, catechesis, evangelization, sacraments, and fun will light the fire for faith and increase participants’ desire to deepen their relationship with God.
There are two age groupings for Totus Tuus:
Students entering grades 1-6 in the 2016-2017 school year can participate in the day program, Monday – Friday, June 13-17 from 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM. Students will be asked to bring their own lunches, but snacks and drinks will be provided. The cost for the day program is $35. Participants will start each day in O’Malley Hall. Open to all of Dubuque.
Students entering grades 7-12 in the 2016-2017 school year can participate in the evening program, Sunday – Thursday, June 12-16 from 7:00 PM – 9:15 PM. (Due to activities planned on Wednesday and Thursday, the dismissal time might run slightly later than 9:15 PM.) Snacks and drinks will be provided. If your 7th-12th grader has a food allergy/diet restriction, please call or email Program Coordinator, Stephanie Klapatauskas (582-0377, firstname.lastname@example.org). Free will donations are accepted. There is no registration for the evening program. Come to one session or come to all, and bring a friend! Participants will start each evening in O’Malley Hall at St. Anthony Parish.
Middle School Night
We have a Middle School Night on the second Friday of the month from 6:30-8:00 pm in the Youth Center. We gather and learn about a topic within the Catholic faith (community, service, social justice, prayer, or the saints just to name a few examples). Each middle school night also involves some prayer, scripture and ice breaker or game. During summer we have taken a break from Middle School Night as there are other opportunities in our parish and in the city.
Summer Service Trip
Every summer, middle school youth go on a service trip. In 2014 we traveled to the Quad Cities. We worked with an organization that helped keep older people in their homes. We helped with yard work that the homeowners could no longer manage. Another time we went to Appleton, WI to work with elderly at a retirement community.
Just 5 Days is designed for middle school youth with hands-on learning, high energy activities, engaging and meaningful worship experiences and direct service in the community.
Here is a video from this year when we went to Davenport to serve the community!
