The Weekend of August 18-19
by Adam Mumm
This Weekend at SJTW
This weekend, Father Paul joins us as we celebrate the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
In the Readings
First Reading Proverbs 9:1-6
In the First Reading, the quality of Wisdom is seen as setting up her house and inviting us to join her. God calls us to to be wise and abandon foolishness.
Second Reading Ephesians 5:15-20
In the Second Reading, Paul tells us to be careful not to live as foolish persons. God wants us to be wise and to make the most of each day by praising and giving thanks to Him.
Gospel John 6:51-58
In the Gospel, Jesus reminds us once again that He is the Bread of Life. Unless we eat His Body and drink His Blood, we do not have life within us. Jesus invites us to follow Him completely in every part of our lives. Because we eat the Body and drink the Blood of Christ, the Father gives us eternal life.
There will be Children’s Liturgy of the Word at the 8:30 and 11:00 Masses. All kids between the ages of 5-10 and their guardians are invited to Martin Hall following the Gloria.
This weekend’s 3rd Sunday Collection will go to support St. Mary in Marshalltown and those in need of assistance as a result of the recent tornado in that area. Thank you so much in advance for your generosity!
