The parish maintains a small food pantry through which we provide non-perishable food to our parishioners or those in the Dubuque area who are in need. St. Joseph the Worker and St. Columbkille parishioners supply the pantry through donations of food and other goods. There is a basket for donations in the three vestibules of the church. From time to time, we will list specific needs in the bulletin.
Rescue Mission Meal
Our parish serves the noon meal at the Dubuque Rescue Mission on four Sundays each year. Rick and Jenny Ginsterblum are our new leaders in this ministry to homeless men in the Dubuque community. They prepare the main dish for each of these events and other parishioners donate desserts and salads.
St. Patrick Meal
Parishioners from St. Joseph the Worker prepare, deliver, and serve the Wednesday evening meal at St. Patrick parish six times each year. A group of parishioners gather to purchase, prepare, and deliver the main dish to the site. Others bring salads, desserts and serve the meal. There is a need for parishioners to help with the preparation of the meal and the transportation of the meal. This service provides between 75 – 100 people with a hot meal each Wednesday night.
St. Vincent de Paul Society
Members extend Christ’s love and concern to individuals and families within the parish boundaries who are in need of emergency assistance, food, clothing, fuel, rent, and utility subsidies. The Society welcomes new members at any time.
The parish can help parishioners with electrical, heat and water bills. The parish also helps with gas and food scrip cards as needed. This assistance is coordinated with Operation New View and Black Hills Energy Cares programs.
